Packing video

Packing video for Amazon claims

A customer says the box was empty, or sends back something you never sold. Without proof of what went into the parcel, it is your word against theirs. A video of each parcel being packed, with the order and the time on it, is the proof that settles it.

Why sellers film their packing

  • Empty-box and missing-item complaints: the video shows the item going into the box and the box being sealed.
  • Wrong item returned: a video of the return being opened shows what actually came back.
  • Damage claims: the video shows the product was whole and well packed when it left.
  • Mistakes by your own team: the right item and the right quantity, checked on camera.

What makes a packing video useful as proof

  • The order number on the video itself, so it is clearly that parcel.
  • The date and time stamped on it.
  • One video per parcel, from the moment its order is taken up to the box being sealed, without a cut.
  • A fingerprint of the file kept when it was recorded, so you can show it was not edited afterwards.
  • Kept long enough: marketplaces' claim windows can run for weeks after delivery.

Filing a SAFE-T claim with Amazon

Amazon's guidance for SAFE-T claims asks for evidence that supports your case, such as photos of the return packaging and label, photos of the item from different angles, and the packing slip. Sellers also report sending a packing or unboxing video.

Sellers report claims refused when filed too early or too late, and when the same photos were used on more than one claim: file within the window shown in Seller Central, and give each claim its own photos and video.

How the SyncFlow packing station works

  1. 1Open the packing station in Chrome on the packing computer, with a webcam over the table and a barcode scanner.
  2. 2Scan the order (or its shipping label): filming starts, and the items that order needs are shown on screen.
  3. 3Optionally scan each product as it goes in: a wrong or extra item beeps and shows in red, and a missing one is pointed out before the parcel is finished.
  4. 4Scan the next order: the video is saved on the packing computer with the order, time, packer and table stamped on it, and its fingerprint is kept in SyncFlow.
  5. 5Returns mode: film a returned parcel being opened, and record what came back on the order.
  6. 6For a claim, find the order and print its claim pack: the videos, their times and fingerprints, on one page.

Questions sellers ask

Do I need special equipment to record packing videos?

A computer with Chrome or Edge, a webcam above the packing table and a USB barcode scanner. Videos are saved on that computer (or in the cloud, if you choose).

How long should I keep packing videos?

At least as long as returns and claims can still come in. In SyncFlow you choose the number of days; older videos are deleted by themselves, except ones you keep for an open claim.

Does a packing video guarantee a SAFE-T claim is accepted?

No: Amazon decides each claim. A clear video of that order being packed, with its number and time on it, is strong evidence, and sellers report it helps, along with photos of the return and its label.

Film every parcel, without changing how you pack

SyncFlow's packing station starts and stops the video with the barcode scans you already make, stamps the order on it and keeps its fingerprint. Book a free demo to see it.
