Amazon profit calculator for India

Put in your selling price, what the product costs you and Amazon's fees, and see what one order really leaves you, and the lowest price that still makes money. Below it, every charge Amazon India makes is explained, so you know what to put in.

What does one Amazon order leave you?

Change the numbers to your product's. Fees are without GST, as Amazon lists them.

You keep per order

₹178

23% of the price

Lowest price without a loss

₹667

Below this, every order loses money

For a GST-registered seller: the GST on Amazon's fees comes back as input tax credit. In SyncFlow, each order's actual fees come from Amazon.

What Amazon India takes from each order

Your payout for an order is the selling price less several charges. Knowing each one is the difference between a product that looks profitable and one that is.

  • Referral fee: a percentage of the selling price, set by the product's category. Some low-priced items in many categories pay no referral fee at all, so check your category.
  • Closing fee: a fixed amount per item, depending on the price band and on how the order is fulfilled (self-ship, Easy Ship or FBA).
  • Shipping (weight handling) fee: for Easy Ship and FBA, Amazon's courier charge, set by weight, size and distance. On self-ship you pay your own courier instead.
  • FBA fees: with Fulfilled by Amazon, also pick and pack, and storage for the stock kept in Amazon's warehouse.
  • 18% GST on all of these fees: Amazon lists its fees without GST and adds 18% on top. If you are GST registered, you can usually claim this back as input tax credit.

TCS and TDS: held back, not lost

Amazon also collects 0.5% TCS under GST (section 52) and deducts 0.1% TDS under income tax (section 194-O) from your sales. These are not costs: they are tax paid on your behalf, which you claim back, TCS in your GST returns and TDS in your income tax return. They do reduce the cash in each payout, so plan for them.

Your own costs that decide the profit

  • Cost price: what one unit costs you to buy or make (without GST if you are GST registered and have a GST bill).
  • Packing: the box, tape and filling for one order.
  • Delivery: your courier on self-ship orders.
  • Returns: a returned order costs you the shipping both ways, and sometimes the product. If 10 in 100 orders come back, count that in.
  • Ads: what you spend on Sponsored Products, divided by the orders it brings.

An example in rupees

A GST-registered seller's wooden laptop stand sells for ₹899 (GST included at 18%), costs ₹380 to make, and ships by Easy Ship. Say Amazon's referral fee for its category is 8%, the closing fee ₹20 and the Easy Ship fee ₹70. Of the ₹899, ₹137 is GST on the sale, leaving ₹762. Amazon's fees come to about ₹162 (8% of ₹899 is ₹72, plus ₹20 and ₹70), and ₹29 of GST on them, which a GST-registered seller claims back. Take off the fees, the cost of ₹380 and ₹25 of packing: about ₹195 is left on one order before returns and ads. If one order in ten comes back, costing the shipping both ways (₹140) and the packing again (₹25), take about ₹16 more off every order: about ₹178. The calculator above starts with exactly this example.

These fee figures are only for the example: your category's referral fee, the closing fee and the shipping fee are in Seller Central's fee schedule, and in SyncFlow they come from Amazon itself.

Mistakes that make products look more profitable than they are

  • Counting the whole selling price as income, when part of it is the GST you owe on the sale.
  • Forgetting the 18% GST on Amazon's fees (it is a cost unless you are GST registered).
  • Leaving out returns and the shipping they cost twice.
  • Pricing every product the same way, when categories have different referral fees.
  • Checking once: Amazon changes fees, and costs change. Profit needs checking order by order.

Questions sellers ask

Is this Amazon profit calculator free?

Yes. Use it as often as you like, without signing up. SyncFlow does the same calculation for every order by itself, with Amazon's actual fees for each one.

Does Amazon charge GST on its fees?

Yes. Amazon India shows its fees without GST and adds 18% GST on all of them. A GST-registered seller can usually claim it back as input tax credit; for a seller who is not registered, it is a cost.

What are TCS and TDS on Amazon payouts?

Amazon collects 0.5% TCS under GST and deducts 0.1% TDS under income tax from your sales. Both are tax paid on your behalf: you claim TCS back in your GST returns and TDS in your income tax return.

Where do I find my category's referral fee?

In Seller Central's fee schedule, under your product's category. In SyncFlow, once Amazon is connected, the fees for each product and each order come from Amazon directly.
